Welcome to Runcorn Model Flying Association

The Runcorn Model Association is situated just outside Frodsham, Cheshire, on the edge of Frodsham Marshes. The Site is very open with great views and surrounded by a nature reserve.

On field parking is available, but this is dependent on the quality of the rainfall.

We have generous dimensions and expansive overrun areas on all sides, easily catering for large and ‘tricky’ models such as jets and warbirds.

The club hut provides seating, heating, hot drinks and basic cooking facilities and access for charging LiPo batteries. A toilet is also available on site.

We are a BMFA affiliated club who take safety seriously. It is run according to its rules, guidelines and safety codes, you would be expected to familiarise yourself with these.

The club also has its own rules which ensure safe procedures and flying, again you would be expected to familiarise yourself with these.

For members new to the hobby we have a number of instructors available who will gladly teach newcomers how to fly, offer advice on model equipment selection and where to get the best deals. If you are still to buy your first model and are unsure what model to get, speak to one of our club members who would be more than happy to give advice.

Instruction is on a voluntary basis, at times there can be several beginners all wanting to fly. Although everything possible is done to accommodate newcomers it may not be possible to get flights at every session. It is up to the individual to arrange with the instructor their availability.

The club uses the BMFA “Up and Away” training scheme for new pilots, all members must hold the BMFA “A” certificate of competence before flying solo.

The Up and Away booklet is available from the BMFA website.

Turbine Aircraft

To be able to fly turbines solo, you must hold the BMFA “A” certificate and be signed off by one of the club tutors, while turbine operation is taking place you MUST always have a capable spotter.

As a BMFA affiliated club your RMA membership will ensure you carry third party insurance, understand the safety implications of flying model aircraft and grant you access to all club facilities including access to discounted fuel (when available), on site charging for batteries and unlimited use of the field.

There are two classes of membership (18 years and above) and Juniors (under 18) Junior members must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

The club accepts no responsibility for children when they are on the club premises. Model aircraft can be very dangerous, this should be considered before committing yourself or children to the hobby.

The RMA management committee are an elected body who look after the membership, financial and administrative requirements of the club. The committee meet regularly to conduct club business, if you (as a member) have any ideas/complaints etc. You should approach a committee member and if required it can then be discussed at the next meeting.

There is the club AGM (Annual General Meeting) held in December each year, all members are invited to attend.

As a club member, you would be required to assist whenever possible in general upkeep of the facilities.

The club emphasis is on fun and enjoyment of model flying, there is a friendly atmosphere and help is always available. If you would like to apply for membership you should visit the club on a Saturday or Sunday morning, speak to a committee member, have a look around and see what goes on. If you feel the club suits your requirements, then you are welcome to complete an application form. by clicking here
